" BLUE IS THE NEW GREEN "
PHOTOJOURNALISM COMPETITION
Digital cameras are giving more people the basic tools needed to capture events that affect their lives. The media is integrating and showcasing photographic reporting in new ways and inadvertently, the popular culture is becoming more aware of visual journalism.
MGS 3rd Regional Youth Conference (RYC) 2009 wants to celebrate the art of photojournalism, not just the artistic and technical qualities of photography. This competition seeks to recognise our promising photojournalists who are able to interpret the theme, Blue is the new Green, and communicate meaning through their photographs.
RULES AND REGULATIONS
1. This competition is open to all students of participating schools.
2. Entries submitted for the Competition must be based on the theme, Blue is the new Green
3. Each participant may submit up to 3 photographs only.
4. All photographs must be in DIGITAL format and either in colour or black-and-white. Images that are scanned from slides, negatives or photographic prints are accepted.
5. Photographs must be submitted in the form of .jpeg, .jpg, .gif files. The files must not exceed 3MB with minimum resolution of 800 pixels on both dimensions.
6. Photographs are to be named in the format of "Name_School_Title of Photograph".
7. Minor burning, dodging and/or color correction is acceptable. Cropping is acceptable. Fish-eye lenses are acceptable. High dynamic range images (HDRI) and stitched panoramas are acceptable only if the combined parts are all made around the same time.
8. The RYC Committee reserves the right to disqualify photographs that are deemed to contain too many adjustments.
9. Photographs that have won or have been placed in other contests will not be accepted. Photographs that violate copyrights are not accepted.
10. All entries must be accompanied by a short article to explain the significance of the photograph. This should not exceed 100 words.
11. In entering the contest, the participant represents, acknowldges and warrants that the submitted photograph is an original work created solely by the participant, that the photograph does not infringe on the copyrights, trademarks, moral rights, rights of privacy/publicity or intellectual property rights of any person or entity, and that no other party has any right, title, claim or interest in the photograph. In other works, participants are not allowed to submit works that do not belong to them.
12. If the photograph includes other people, you must be prepared to provide a signed written personal release (within 7 days) from all persons who appear in the photograph submitted, authorising use of the photograph by the RYC Committee to display, distribute, reproduce and create derivative works of the entries, in whole or in part, in any media now existing or subsequently developed.
13. In entering this contest, all participants agree to release, discharge and hold harmless the RYC Committee, the Methodist Girls' School and its partners, affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising agencies, agents and their employees, officers, directors, and representatives from any claims, losses, and damages arising out of their participation in this contest or any contest-related activities and the acceptance and use, misuse or possession of any prize awarded hereunder.
14. The RYC Committee will not be responsible for lost or damaged entries.
15. The judges' decision is final and no correspondence pertaining to the decision of the results will be entertained.
JUDGING CRITERIA
All entries will be judged based on:
Creativity = 25%
Composition of Photographs = 25%
Style = 25%
Image and Content (evocative) = 25%
Prizes will be awarded to the three best entries.
SUBMISSION OF ENTRIES
1. Each entry must be accompanied by a duly completed entry form and must be endorsed by your teacher-in-charge.
2. The closing date for participation is Friday, 5 June 2009.
3. Late entries will not be entertained.

Sidenote: It's probably a good idea to get your entries double checked with En. Mustafa before sending them in, okay? Make the most of your entries!
If you're still confused about anything, come to one of the committee members (Kate, Zi Lynn, Mallini, Michelle, etc) and we'll try to explain as much as we can.
